In 1996, the first wife and I lost a 10 month old Dalmatian to leukemia. We went out and got another dog pretty much right away. When I had to have my ferrets put down I didn't even think about getting another one.
Much like Lumpy said earlier, I love dogs and I can't imagine not owning one. When my dogs are no longer with us, I can see the wife and I getting another dog pretty quickly.
