I don't think there's any justification for a team like the Royals not to spend whatever it takes to get the best talent in the draft. If that means not signing Kendall, we'll all deal with it, I'm sure.
After looking at the first-round money in the 2010 draft, did we go cheap by not taking Zach Lee? Allegedly, there wasn't legit talent outside of the top 3, and then this kid gets over $5M at the bottom of the round? The Dodgers gave this kid more than they gave to Kershaw...
I don't know much about Lee, other than the basics. Just seems very, very strange. And, yeah, lots of teams passed, but I still think it's inexcusable to pass on the BPA for any team. The relative cost is just too damn low.
