There was nothing at all wrong with trading a 2nd round pick for Cassel/Vrabel. It brought some experience,leadership and character to the transition period of changing the coaches etc. The problem was giving Cassel the huge contract before he had played a single down as a Chief. Trade for Cassel/Vrabel
don't give him a new contract the 1st year
draft a QB/acquire another QB/have a backup plan
actually even giving the big contract is not a monumental mistake AS LONG as they draft a QB next year and cut bait with Cassel(assuming he continues to suck).
next year Cassel is gone for Jake Locker(or whomever)
next year Vrabel is gone for Studebaker
if so then it was a decent enough return for a 2nd rounder all things considered.

I'm sure many would disagree, but not me. I think it was a reasonable level of risk for the pick. Giving him the big money was the stupid mistake.
