Most fail because thiers eyes are to big or have no market sense. Do not open up a gigantic pizza place and not serve beer and alcohol. Place around here did that with expensive pizza prices to. Oob. Start small. Cater/carryout/delivery. Rent is smaller. Utilites are smaller and you are not paying people to bus dead space on empty tables.
Most business I see starting out spend most of their money on getting a sweet spot and decor. Not enough margin for startups to be wasting money.
Now he did wrong in contacting the ceo. Since it was his fault for not including the tip on a group so large. But I would not fire him for it over this type of customer. Now if it were aregular custoer who dropped coin consistently maybe.
Take it as lesson learned.
