Team USA's undefeated run in the Pan American Qualifying Tournament came to an end on Tuesday night with a 7-2 semifinal loss to the Dominican Republic in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Royals left-hander Danny Duffy started for Team USA, giving up two runs in 4 1/3 innings and taking the loss. Lefty reliever Tim Collins had his scoreless streak ended at 6 1/3 innings when he was charged with two runs in the ninth inning.
The Royals' two position players combined for just one hit. Eric Hosmer was 1-for-3 with a triple and scored a run. Mike Moustakas was hitless in four at-bats as Team USA was held to six hits.
Team USA, which was seeded first, fell to 9-1 and will play Venezuela in the third-place game on Wednesday. The Dominican Republic, seeded fourth, stands 7-3 and will meet Cuba, 8-2, for first place.
