True Grit is hilarious. Also, a simultaneously incisive and loving commentary on the entire Western genre.
Only two flaws in that movie.
1) sound mixing as the dialogue was too low in some spots that I missed 1/3 of Bridges' lines. If it'd been louder, I could have made them out.
2) Ending was abrupt. I was left wanting more. Perhaps it's, as you say, a commentary on the genre. The voice over came back and I was like "really? that's it?".
