I wouldn't think that SF would make the list. The others? Absolutely. But I bet that a southern city could replace SF. Oil money in Dallas or Austin, perhaps? It's dominating and kicking ass on a different type of level, but the grip might perhaps be even tighter.

San Fran is the techie capital of the world, whether it's Google or Ebay or any number of companies. The real estate got so out of control up there during the boom that houses as far as Stockton, which is 90 minutes away without traffic, were going for $500k or more for a dump.
San Fran is a trend-setter and the most expensive place to live per square foot in America.
