Another idea that has been getting a lot of talk is the new points system. It appears that NASCAR will scrap the points system it has used since 1975 in favor of a simpler method that awards points per finishing position. The likely new system would award 43 points to the race winner, and one point less for each ensuing position down to one point for the 43rd-place finisher. Drivers would be awarded bonus points for winning a race. In all honesty, it does not matter to the drivers what the points system is, whether its 180 points to win or 43, they will still race as hard as ever.
