They also have an annual "secrets" thread where someone sets up a dummy email and people e-mail their anonymous secrets in, and those secrets then get posted anonymously. It's quite amusing.

I'm was surprisingly hurt that my name was never mentioned in the say good things about people thread. I think the posts that went into great detail kind of hurt the worst as people who've been around shorter than I have and post much less were mentioned, but I never did, even after I'd helped out many of the posters in the thread in one way or another.


I know there were plenty of "Sorry if I forgot anyone!" messages in the thread, but it's kind of like getting picked last for the baseball team, having all of your friends say how sorry they were that you felt bad, and then them picking you last again the next week.

Reading the thread was just a perfect cap to an otherwise completely shit day.

Sometime earlier this year, something really weird happened to me. I started getting very intense desires to torture certain animals. This was really odd for a lot of reasons.

I have zero history of this kind of behavior. I never pulled the wings off of flies or took a magnifying glass to ants. The only thing I've ever done to an animal besides pet it was dissect a fetal pig in high school.

But since...uh, June or July or so, I've wanted to hurt things. If I'm awake at night I'll think about heating up the tip of a screwdriver and sticking it into a hamster's eye, or putting a bird in the microwave. Those are the tamer fantasies.

I saw a video of some monkeys being experimented on in very brutal ways and found myself smiling by the end.

To clarify, I still have not hurt any animals. Even a little. I'm just very disturbed and confused by this very sudden and very harsh urge to cause pain to something for no reason. Sometimes if I think about it makes me sick and really sad. Other times it just makes me laugh.
