A few things to consider before you make this comparison...

The current group of decision-makers had NOTHING to do with the draft the year Tulowitzki was taken. Dayton Moore was still in Atlanta. J.J. Piccolo and Mike Arbuckle were elsewhere, too.

The Tulowitzki draft, the Royals took the guy (Alex Gordon) that EVERYONE thought was the consensus No. 2 player. They would have roundly criticized for being "cheap" had they gone any other route.

The Lincecum draft, they were one of nine teams that passed on Lincecum. And the draft still was being run by the pre-Dayton Moore group. Dayton Moore had been named the GM but was not involved in the Royals draft because he had run the Braves' draft prep.

And the year they passed on Buster Posey, they draft Eric Freaking Hosmer instead. I think I can live with that.
