It doesn't surprise me at all that soccer teams are at the top because soccer is a much more international sport. And I can see NBA teams ranking high because they could have an international audience as well given that basketball is an international sport.

Football is purely American, and fans of the sport are rare outside the U.S. We're essentially a different version of sumo wrestling or curling or that Afghan game where you capture headless goats on horseback. If you don't live in the country of origin, you'll probably never quite get it or get exposed to it.
