So I feel like College Station/A&M is getting a (somewhat) undeserved bum rap in this thread. I'll try to address a few points.
1. College Station is a pretty conservative town but to say it's entirely full of rednecks is disingenuous at best. The ROTC crowd is generally a bunch of douches (as has been mentioned) but they generally keep to themselves and you don't really have to interact with them if you don't want to.
I moved to College Station from Portland, OR which has more in common with Austin than any other Texas city. It doesn't have the eclectic culture of an Austin or Portland but it has it's own small town charm. I felt at home even though I'd never been to the South before. And I certainly can't be called a redneck. I drive a compact car, have never shot a gun, hate fishing, and never had a mullet, crewcut, etc.
2. The traditions are dumb. True, some people really get into them but the vast majority don't really care. I was never once yelled at for something I did or didn't do.
3. Cops have nothing better to do than write tickets for dumb crap? Sure, I've heard the stories. I never once got pulled over, ticketed, or even really interacted with the police. Neither did anyone I personally knew.
4. AustinChief - I don't regret attending A&M. So now you know one person that doesn't regret it.

And I would never attend UT.
I'm sure there will be more. Flame away.
