Baseball's a tough sport at this level - adding a degree of difficulty by playing a 2b at SS and a one-armed utility man at 2b doesn't do you any good.

Trading Brendan Ryan for a sack of balls doesn't get you 1.2 wins everytime you score more than the other guy. There's nothing gained by making things more difficult for yourself.

Someone would be wise to remind LaRussa of this.
