OU tends to acknowledge the role they played in this mess. They drove the wedge between Nebraska and UT when everything in the world suggested that they should've backed Nebraska during formation and created a more even conference.
They chose their horse and helped feed it, but by the end they recognized their error and could've been instrumental in restructuring the conference in a viable manner.
I think they could've been persuaded (as the statements from their President suggest) but nobody bothered trying until it was too late.
Just another example of the conference and its leadership being reactive.
