Whitlock literally has a neurotic complex when it comes to The Wire.
That said, he privileges realism too much in his assessment of dramas. That's why the last two s04 episodes of BB ring false to him. But he also inconveniently dismisses how mythic Omar is in The Wire, or how much you need a suspension of disbelief to watch Wire season 5's plot arc where McNulty and Lester do what they do (the value in that plot arc lies mostly in metaphor).
