AA is certainly doing a better job than JP, who wasn't willing to take risks on possible elite talent (which is really the only way to win in the AL East if your ownership isn't willing to spend). Lawrie, for his part, is really one of the best young players I've seen. He already reminds me of an Ian Kinsler type (good power, great plate discipline, good defense), but at 3B. Guy's intense, too.
The Mike Napoli trade still hurts. I remember being in disbelief that they traded Vernon Wells' contract and somehow got the Angels' best hitter back. That feeling was dampened significantly when they traded Napoli a few days later for Frank ****ing Francisco. That's the only mistake Anthopoulos has made, though. The rest has been great and he's arguably the best farm system in baseball in under 2 years.
