Pioli fortunately does not operate in a cocoon where his decisions are unaffected by market forces. One reason that losing teams draft QBs in the first round is to sell tickets. Matt Cassel Act Four will not sell tickets.
The only way Cassel stays is if he brings in McDaniels as head coach, and Pioli would be betting his career on that double-down. Much safer actually for Pioli to get a few free years with a rookie QB.
