If you mean their influence is over-rated, you're also wrong. Because they completely changed popular music in the 90's. They basically took the exact same sound the Melvins had and added pop hooks to it. It was incredibly popular and changed music forever.
Nobody in the past 3 decades has influenced rock music more heavily than Nirvana.
