There were people working in the football dept that were celebrating his departure, he was that type of person. He made very few friends there with the way he treated people. That had more to do with the lack of booster support he received than anything.
The worst railroading he got was from the local Media. They had it out for him and kept banging their drum throughout the entire process. KU football's worst enemy has been the LJW sports media for a long time. They have personal agendas and biases running very deep, and Mangino treated them extremely poorly. Having the biggest Talk Sports Radio Host (KK) in the nearest metro hating your collective guts and using their show as a personal soap box for all things anti-KU doesn't help either. But in the end, it was handled poorly, yes. It was horrible, and Lew deserved plenty of criticism for this. But Mangino did himself no favors. Had he established relationships locally, he wouldn't have been run out of town so quickly cause people would have defended him. He made his own bed, however.

Don't feed it. Rival fans wanting it both ways.
I had similar feelings about him. He was a dick, but he won football games making his actions tolerable.
When you go 1-9 in conference and still act the way you do I can see the people who have to work with him day in and day out wanting him gone.
Like I said, in CFB you need allies, and HCMM had none. He still doesn't otherwise he'd be working.
