Most are settled out of court because if you are found on slightly responsible as a defendant you have to pay all the attorney fees for defense and claimant which usually are in the 7 figure range. Not worth the risk.
Meanwhile you get $1.50 while the attorney's rack up millions.

I agree with all of this BUT what you need to understand is that part of the concept here is that the THREAT of class action lawsuits, which can easily result in multi-million dollar damage awards (including those heinous attorneys fees) are specifically designed to deter bad conduct by corporations.
And bringing class action suits isn't easy, and the risks are high very.
But yes, successful class action attorneys are definitely "one percenters". I understand that. And I understand that everyone loves to hate attorneys, so go for it.
