The Notre Dame thing makes me assume that he can recruit, but the coaching is the issue. I believe all of his ND classes were top 15, but obviously it didn't translate to the field. So, if coaching is the issue, he's going to struggle because he won't be able to get top 15 classes at KU.
I see the KU job as a stepping stone for him to prove he can be a successful college coach. If he can be successful, I don't see him at KU more than 4-5 years before moving on to a better job. So while not a good thing that he's had that many positions in such a short time, it won't be unexpected to me if he decides to bolt in 4-5 years.....but that would mean that he's turned KU around to being at least a decent football program.
