With last offseason having such a lack of turnover with coaches due to no offseason and teams being weary of change in that situation, general perception would dictate that this offseason will have a much higher amount of turnover for head coaches.
It's absolutely possible that Pioli thought there was a legit chance at losing Romeo after the year if he didn't be proactive about it.
Tough to say, either way until we see how things shake out.
