Surely you can't be serious. Almost 30yrs of marriage, 7 kids, no pre-nup while living in California for the majority of the marriage. Uh, yeah, Mel has to pay a lot.
Marriage is a state sanctioned legally bound contract. There are far reaching implications to dissolving any contract. Any agreement you ever enter into, whether it be a marriage contract to a construction contract would be wise to understand the terms of that agreement. In this case certain criteria was met during the marriage and she is entitled to half of all joint assets, as well as liabilities that have been built during the marriage.
