The entire PC will definitely cost more total, but the PC will be used for more than just gaming. For the price a PS3 you could upgrade a system that would blow it out of the water, all while the computer is also taking care of your other entertainment needs(stereo, television, PVR, and also any kind of design programs, or any PC related tasks. My rig will pump out 3d models, and animations, and render them in Half the time it takes my HP workstation PC to do it at work. So it really doesn't cost much more than a 360 or ps3 does, If you use your PC for multiple things. Mine at home runs everything for me. One device replaces all others
