Asked and answered multiple times during the discussion. If I've ignored any questions on this thread it's because I've answered them more than once previously.
We thought the impending ban for DOTY finalists might do a few things:
1. Prevent lobbying for a badge of honor.
2. Encourage the usual suspects to consider lightening up their behavior throughout the year if they knew there was a possibility of a user-imposed ban.
3. Empower regulars to have a say in who they wanted to be gone - one vote, one day.
But we hear you guys. You can put down the pitchforks and torches. The issue is being discussed in the castle.
