He wasn't that funny. His character was this street kid who was friends with the youngest son (can't remember his name). The family brought him into the home, but he didn't bring anything to the show. All of his stories had to do with his messed up childhood, his bad parents, and all that kind of drama.
As far as I know, this is the only role DiCaprio has ever played where he didn't die at the end.

When DiCaprio joined the show it jumped the shark. They also added some red headed 3 year old girl. That didn't help.
