Every coordinator in the league has aspirations of being an NFL HC someday - none of them run their entire careers on the off chance that it happens.
Are you telling me he really would've made an active decision to turn down a couple million dollars on the 5% chance that he gets hired as a HC someday?

That's career suicide. You're far FAR more likely to simply end up a career assistant that's several million poorer for your efforts than you are of being a HC.
I'm sorry, but assistant coaches don't make enough money to think that way. They're generally fungible and unlike a lot of the other parties involved in the NFL, they actually have to worry about making ends meet.
