In reality, I don't understand why the Patriots' filming was not allowed in the first place. If information is available and you're outside, why can't you film it or read lips or whatever? It seems like something that is impossible to proactively enforce, and if it wasn't against the rules you bet that teams would have countermeasures in place.
The only problem is that everyone wasn't operating under the same rules. Perhaps it's time to bring the rules in line with the 21st century where there are 75,000 cameras in the stands, all of which can instantly transmit images.
