I was peddling electronics back in those days and was standing in front of an entire wall of TVs at the time. Since I live in Central Florida, interest in the space program has always been very intense around here, and I had grown up worshiping astronauts and man's first steps on the moon. I was surrounded by a crowd of people as we all watched the disaster unfold.
I remember at first telling myself it just
couldn't be what I thought it was, that it was just something strange about how the solid rocket boosters had separated or something.
