Well that's a whole different monster. Kids, and people in general, are cruel. They're going to make fun and some kids are going to be outcasts for a whole lot of different reasons. It's just a fact of life. I'm sure everyone in here was verbally bullied at some point in their lives. For that, I see no reason to mold your life to accomodate other people's views and beliefs. As long as you're not harming anyone, then it's really no biggie.
To the people that argue that it'll mess up the kids head and independence: that's pretty laughable as well. I've been on this board a long time and I know a lot of you have kids; I'm amazed that you all can think so shallow. What works for one kid doesn't always work for another. By now, I'd think most of you should have realized that there's no master blueprint on how to raise a perfect child. Until you can find me some reliable research that proves breastfeeding past the age of 3 actually has serious life-threatening/hindering implications, I'm not going to bother worrying about what someone else wants to do with their own child.
