I've had DTV for 0ver 10 years now, when I want something I call and ask to speak with Customer Retention. I won't speak with anyone else.
Tell them what you want and ask them what they can do to get it for you in order to keep you as a customer, then go quiet and let them talk.
Be polite, friendly, and firm.
I also do this for my wife's parents. Whenever they need something from DTV I call and say I'm her dad. I got them their first HD DVR for $99 total, second HD DVR for no charge.
