It's one thing to say "there are no offers". We all know that the offer is the very last step.
He is saying something different here, he is saying there have been no discussions
. That is the difference between saying "we haven't reached the end of the process yet" and "we haven't even discussed starting the process".
Sure, maybe he is lying, but it seems like the signaling from these two schools was initially that they were malcontents to, more recently, wanting to stick around.
It's complicated of course, not everyone at the school will even be in agreement, but saying there have been no discussions is a little stronger than when a team says they are a proud member of the Big 12 while trying to finagle their way into the PAC
