He didn't attack them immediately or without thought.
You'll also notice he didn't go after Shaw until it was obvious she became a threat to his mission.
GIVE US ****ING DIALOGUE. Give us something. Don't make us go "figure it out" and have a nerd circle jerk of analyzing an otherwise forgettable film. His (and the other characters) actions are meaningless in the context they were presented.
