Hard evidence that a catcher "handles a staff well" or "calls a good game" may be tough to quantify but I do believe in it. I guess the best evidence is what comes from the pitchers and coaches. A lot of pitchers have and continue to use personal catchers, even if that guys isn't the normal starter, because they work well together and have a level of comfort/trust. It's pretty much the same thing I guess imo.

I was a pitcher through high school, and even at that low level, there were guys that I pitched well with vs. others. Some catchers you vibe with and that back and forth calling pitches snowballs. In addition, some catchers just present a target better and make the pitcher feel confident that he's going to frame things up for the umpire. You can't quantify it, but it's most definitely real. For me, a bigger catcher who didn't wait until the last minute to flip the mitt up as a target was helpful.
