I'll echo what some of the folks have said re: catchers, and here's something else to consider...
My favorite catcher in high school was my junior legion catcher, and I always felt like I pitched better to him than anyone else. He was the best defensive guy I worked with. That let me worry less about throwing the breaking ball in the dirt on a 2-strike count - I was confident he was going to keep the ball from going to the screen.
He also had - by far - the best throwing arm of any catcher I played with. He was so good at controlling the running game, I didn't have to worry as much about it (didn't have to slide step, didn't have to worry about throwing only fastballs, etc.).
I wouldn't be surprised if some of that bleeds through with Perez, too.
