Yes but the B12 wasn't. The Big 8 had a population problem and the SWC had a competition problem. The B12 wrote completely new by-laws, it wasn't like conference expansion is now, where you join their club. The B12 was more like a merger with some SWC casualties.
I understand, nuances can be difficult for you.
