I grew up fly fishing out on Grand Mesa, on the other side of the front range there. Had some friends in Cedar Edge, there on the mesa. Many, many trout lakes/steams on the worlds largest flat-top mountain. Hoppers worked well in August - caddis immitations are good most of the time. 'Wooly worms' behind a small Colorado spinner work well, too.
I wish I'd bothered to photograph more fish when I was 20-ish. I used to catch a lot of 'wall mount' trout out there, and ate 'em on the spot. Well, I had my fun. Good luck, and if you ever get to Grand Mesa or down in the nearby Gunnison...don't tell anyone about it but CHIEFS fans.
