In 1966, Charles Whitman went on a shooting spree from the UT clock tower in Austin, Texas. The party of Rangers and Deputy Sheriffs who climbed the tower to stop him were fired on by civilian riflemen on the ground, even after Whitman was shot and killed. It took a while to discover, and then to alert the general public, that Whitman had acted alone.
Thinking there are multiple shooters is nothing new. Let's give the over-excited news outlets a day or so to get their stories straight.
