Yeah... not really a forerunner for southern rock either. The Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker, Elvin Bishop... even Barefoot Jerry and Charlie Daniels were really the first wave of southern rock. Then we got Skynyrd, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, .38 Special... into ZZ Top, Blackfoot, Black Oak Arkansas etc..
Not that Cash wasn't doing anything that has a common ground with southern rock but I don't think he was really a forerunner of it. He was really more country then than in his later stuff.
