Smith has been adequate in the fifth spot since returning from the minors and looks like he has room for improvement.
Mendoza has been adequate as a number four guy since the end of May.
Duffy certainly looked serviceable prior to his injury.
Hoch needs to go simply because he has no mental toughness.
Chen has lost a lot of effectiveness and it's really time to move on.
Odorizzi looks like a AAAA pitcher to me, but he certainly could pan out or could be a trade chip.
I think the problem is that nothing is really clear cut.
You think Guthrie has turned it around based upon his last five starts, and yet you are ready for Chen (who needs one more decent inning tonight before he'll have posted a quality start in four of his last five starts as well) to move on.
I have no idea which of our starters will post the lowest ERA in September. I wouldn't be surprised if Hoch, Chen, Guthrie, or Mendoza looked good or bad. That, to me, is the problem.
