Yes it actually WAS one of the reasons we lost.

If you turn over the ball and give more poessions to opposing teams offensses, you're going to lose when you're playing a good team as talented as the Falcons..

Cassel threw 2 picks and fumbled the ball. One pick was obviously his fault and one was tipped (probably shouldn't have thrown it to him because he was blanketed).

The defense sucked. Sucked BAD. I'm not disputing that. It's the defenses' job to stop the other team from scoring, and they didn't. Having that said the depth in the secondary is a problem. We missed Flowers, Lewis, and Hali today. Those 3 players are HUGE players in our pass defense. Instead we had Reeves (who had a horrible camp) covering Julio Jones and no pass rush and no safety help over the middle and that's why Ryan had a great near perfect game. There was no pressure on the QB other than Houston a couple of plays, and Ryan had all day to throw with a Pro-bowl receiving core.

Here's the problem though. This team isn't made to come back from deficits. If they get down and to a point where they have to pass a lot to get back into the game in a short-timely manner and have to put the game into Cassel's hands, then there in a lot of trouble, and that's what happened in the second half today.

We got beat by a much better team today, and it showed. But we were not a full strength on defense and I don't think it's time to panic yet, by any means. This is probably a SB contender we played today and we have a lot of time to get better/healthy.

All this game says is that ATL is further along than us. We certainly have some work to do, but we showed a lot of good flashes today, esp in the first half. So there's some good things to look at.

Point is, Cassel was put into the position he was put into (having him try to keep up w/ a better, more efficient offense) because we had zero passrush and Matt Ryan picked apart a depleted secondary and our backups didn't respond well to the challenge. Matt Cassel also needs to protect the mother****ing football.
