I've read it, and I agree, in part. But, we have to separate the context of culture from which certain explorers ventured forth, and the spirit of exploration itself. Sure, some of these guys were assholes, often exploration has led to conflict and even genocide. But, the spirit of exploration also leads to insight, it begins to meld once disparate cultures, it requires courage and conviction.
We shouldn't confuse the spirit of exploration with the bad choices of certain explorers.
