As far as a larger ship, I was on the Navigator of the Seas, which is in the same family as the one pictured... I felt a bit uneasy about being on a ship with 3000+ other tourists (and their kids), but now I have no complaints. There were 12 elevators and they were always busy, but we were on the 8th deck of 12 and were only a few decks away from all the food and most of the entertainment. We had our own balcony, which was nice when I didn't want to be around the crowds, but at times I was actually surprised it wasn't more crowded in certain areas or for certain shows.

We didn't pay for the cruise line's excursions. People I went with had gone before. We simply hoofed it in Progreso rented Jeeps from Alamo at the port in Cozumel. The excursions probably had better quality reefs and such, but we did nearly the same thing for less than half the cost.
