When I was in college (95-05... ) saying "the down low" went from a term for "having some on the side" to a term for a black man who was gay that kept a GF to act straight.

Kind of like how straight use to mean a girl who didn't put out when I was in Jr. High and by high school it suddenly meant "not gay."
