Probably are looking at 4 years, $65-70 million or so. I'd do it, but that's a lot to spend on a 32-year old who DOES have back problems this year.
I'd probably rather go 4 years, $60 million on Anibal Sanchez, if I had to choose.
Angels pick up the option. Trade them a middling but legit prospect. Win-win for both teams. Angels get something for nothing, and the Royals get a high-upside/low-risk pitcher for around $12M for one year.
He kicks ass and the team sucks? Flip him at the deadline. Otherwise, we get a year of Haren on the "cheap," and can try to negotiate a possible extension, if everything goes extremely well.
