I didn't mind it because Thigpen and Croyle were our other 2 options and the QB's at the top of that draft weren't intriguing to me as well....I sure as hell didn't want Sanchez just like I don't want Barkley or any other scrub that comes out of USC aka Underperforming Signal Callers.
In 2009 I gave that season to him as a transition season even though he was downright terrible. He showed some promise in the 2010 season but against a soft schedule and division that we've pretty much owned the past decade (NFCW). That all changed once we played Baltimore in the playoffs. In 2011 it was a giant shit storm a lot like it is now. Then I blamed the coaching nightmare we had then and the way they handled the NFL lockout for the shitty start..not to mention injuries to 2 of our most important players.
This season I figured with everyone back from injury, a full training camp with no coaching cancers, we could come running out of the gates and on our way to a AFCW title. Holy **** was I wrong. Not only didn't I think the defense would be as bad as it's been (though it's improved) I sure as hell didn't think Cassel would be Cpt. Turnover Machine. This team "might" win 6 games, or just enough to get us out of the Geno Smith running which will piss absolutely everyone off.
I don't feel bad for Cassel....not one god damn bit. He essentially stole $50M from the Hunts for services that arguably could have been done from a backup QB, which is exactly what he is in this league. I understand the move/trade at the time...however I sure as **** don't understand the contract and there will never be any convincing me of that being the right move....That's on Pioli 100%. Cassel can't be fixed...it's a passing league and we need a QB that can compete to that manner. It was a failed experiment and if Pioli wants to win back some fans he would part ways with Cassel and draft Geno Smith. End of story.
