Romney's always been what you described in the OP, you just didn't bother to listen. I've been saying this for months - he's not some wild arch-conservative that's flipping his views to the center to win a general. He's
always governed from the center.
He did tailor his message to the right during the Primary because that's what
everyone does to win the base. Your boy O did the same thing and the next Democrat will as well. You, fine Democrat or Independent, are not the target audience for primary speeches. He's trying to rally a base, so he's going to be {gasp} a politician in so doing.
But when you watch how he's actually governed over the entire duration of his political career, he's very much a centrist and I anticipate he'll govern much the same. I don't see how that makes him a mouthpiece for the evil Republicans.
