I once read in a book or story where a character asked something like, "If your reward was a moment of absolute clarity as you died. That you would understand what God was, what life meant. Understood the universe and everything in it. Would that be worth it to you?" In other words, if that were what the concept of Heaven really is, would that be satisfying to you. I think it would really. That's not to say they there isn't a "heaven" but I think if a person finds a moment of absolute peace at the end then they essentially died happy.
I guess the benefit would be that if you then had the same moment when you died you would then understand that everything is ok with your mother, and have a peace with it.
That doesn't answer your question. I don't know the answer. But it's something I think about.
