Is it fear? Are you scared of not existing like before you were born? Very odd why any rational person would think they are going to live forever or would even want to. Its the anthropomorphic conceit at work.

That really doesn't matter though to why i think it doesn't end when you die.
I mean you're just floating around out there somewhere, no conscious thought, you miss the plague, crusades, WWII, and then bam, there you are growing up becoming aware that you are living.
I just find it illogical that something as complex as human thought and intelligence fades to nothing. It could be we all lived before and our brains just aren't developed enough to recognize it. It could be we're evolving into what we would technically call 'god'.
To many question with out enough answers.
