On Star Trek, you'd always see the Enterprise trying to escape from a violent space anomaly or trying to avoid annihilation from a fleet of enemy ships. The situation is always the same. Shield/energy/weapons/life support goes on a gradual countdown. 87%... 64%... 42%... 39%... 15%...

Then (let's just say Picard) says "Options? Mr. LaForge!"

Then LaForge says, "Captain, we've got a hull breach imminent if we don't get out of here, but we need power converted through the plasma manifolds, and if they take on any more stress they'll buckle! We'll have a warp core breach!"

Then Picard's just like, "Well, what the **** can we do?"

Then Data turns around and says, "Captain, why not use the graviton energy from our tractor beam to form a barrier around the plasma coolant while power is routed through those systems? I estimate we would have 15 seconds of time to get our warp engines back online. However, we suffer the risk of overloading the censory matrix. The entire sector would be flooded with graviton radiation"

Captain: *as shit is exploding and catching on fire around him* "MAKE IT SO!"

Know why Captain Picard always says "Yes" to that crazy idea? Because if he doesn't, he's going to ****ing die, that's why.

Right now Pioli and Crennel are stalling, saying, "Just give the shields some time. They'll hopefully hold long enough until we receive help"
